Chickenpox is a contagious illness caused by the varicella zoster virus. It typically begins with a low-grade fever and tiredness, followed by itchy blisters that first appear on the face, scalp, and trunk. Transmission may occur via direct contact with an infected individual or through the air from an infected person's coughing or sneezing. While most cases of chickenpox can be treated at home, medical attention may be necessary if vomiting, diarrhea, or high fever also occurs.
