Symptoms of Chickenpox (Cont.)

Breakthrough Disease

Because the chickenpox vaccine is 70 to 90 percent effective, a modified chickenpox virus, known as breakthrough disease, can occur in some vaccinated persons.

Symptoms of breakthrough disease are almost always minor, with mild or no fever, and a rash with fewer than 50 skin lesions. The symptoms of breakthrough disease also do not last as long as regular symptoms of chickenpox.
